Question 58:  What must you do to be saved?

Answer:  I must repent of my sin and believe in Christ as my Savior 

Question 59:  How do you repent of your sins?

Answer:  I must be sorry for my sin, and hate and forsake it?

Question 60:  Why must you hate and forsake your sin?

Answer:  Because sin displeases God. 

Question 61:  What does it mean to believe in Christ?

Answer:  To trust in Christ alone for my salvation.

Question 62:  Can you repent and believe in Christ by your own  power?

Answer:  No I cannot repent and believe unless the Holy Spirit changes my heart. 

Question 63:  How can you get the help of the Holy Spirit.

Answer:  God has told us to pray for the Holy Spirit's help.


Question 64:  How long ago did Christ die?

Answer:   About two thousand years ago

Question 65:  How were sinners saved before Christ came?

Answer:  By believing in the promised Messiah 

Question 66:  Before Christ came, ho did believers show their faith?

Answer:  By offering the sacrifices God required

Question 67:  What did these sacrifices represent?

Answer:  Christ, the Lamb of God, who would come to die for sinners.


Question 68:  Ho many offices does Christ fulfill as the promised Messiah?

Answer:  Christ fulfills three offices

Question 69:  What are they?

Answer:  The offices of a prophet, of a priest, and of a king 

Question 70:  How is Christ your prophet?

Answer:  Christ teaches me the will of God

Question 71:  How is Christ your priest?

Answer:  Christ died for my sins and continues to pray for me.

Question 72:  How is Christ your king?

Answer:  Christ rules over me, the world and Satan, and he defends me.


Question 73:  Why do you need Christ as your prophet?

Answer:  Because I am ignorant by nature

Question 74:  Why do you need Christ as your priest?

Answer:  Because I am guilty of breaking God's law 

Question 75:  Why do you need Christ as your king?

Answer:  Because I am weak and helpless


Question 76:  How many commandments did God give on Mount Sinai?

Answer:  Ten Commandments 

Question 77:  Why should we obey the Ten Commandments?

Answer:  Because God is our Creator, Savior and King

Question 78:  What do the first four commandments teach?

Answer:  What it means to love and serve God. 

Question 79:  What do the last six commandment teach?

Answer:  What it means to love and serve my neighbor.

Question 80:  What do the Ten Commandments teach

Answer:  To love God with all my heart, and my neighbor as myself. 

Question 81:  Who is your neighbor?

Answer:  Everybody is my neighbor

Question 82:  Is God pleased with those who love and obey him?

Answer:  Yes. God says, "I love them that love me". 

Question 83:  Is God displeased with those who do not love and obey him?

Answer:  Yes.  "God is angry with the wicked every day"


Questions 84:  What is the first commandment?

Answer:  The first commandment is "You shall have no other gods before me" 

Question 85:  What does the first commandment teach you?

Answer:  To worship the true God, and him only.

Question 86:  What is the second commandment

Answer:  The second commandment is "You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.  You shall not bow down to them or serve them, for I the LORD your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth generations  of those who hate me, but showing steadfast love to thousands of those who love me and keep my commandments" 

Question 87:  What does the second commandment teach you?

Answer:  To worship God only as he commands, and not to worship God by using statues or pictures


Question 88:  What is the third commandment?

Answer:  The third commandment is "You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain, for the LORD will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain" 

Question 89:  What does the third commandment teach you?

Answer:  To treat God's name, word and works with reverence

Answer:  Exodus 20 and Deuteronomy 5


Question 90:  What is the fourth commandment?

Answer:  The fourth commandment is "Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.  Six days you shall labor, and do all your work,  but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work, you, or your son, or your daughter, your male servant, or your female servant, or your livestock, or the sojourner who is within your gates.  For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy".

Question 91:  What does the fourth commandment teach you?

Answer:  To work six days and keep the Sabbath day holy. 

Question 92:  What day of the week is the Christian Sabbath?

Answer:  The first day of the week

Question 93:  Why is it called the Lord's day?

Answer:  Because on that day the Lord Jesus Christ rose from the dead 

Question 94:  How should you keep the Lord's day?

Answer:  I should rest from my daily work and faithfully worship God.


Question 95:  What is the fifth commandment?

Answer:  The fifth commandment is "Honor your father and your mother; that your days may be long upon the land which the LORD your God is giving you."

Question 96:  What does the fifth commandment teach you?

Answer:  To love and obey my parents and all others that God appoints over me. 

Question 97:  What is the sixth commandment?

Answer:  The sixth commandment is "You shall not murder."

Question 98:  What does the sixth commandment teach you?

Answer:  Not to take anyone's life unjustly and not to sin when I am angry.


Question 99:  What is the seventh commandment?

Answer:  The seventh commandment is "You shall not commit adultery." 

Question 100:  What does the seventh commandment teach you?

Answer:  To be pure in heart, language, and conduct, and to be faithful in marriage.

Question 101:  What is the eighth commandment?

Answer:  The eighth commandment is "You shall not steal." 

Question 102:  What does the eighth commandment teach you?

Answer:  Not to take anything that belongs to someone else.


Question 103:  What is the ninth commandment?

Answer:  The ninth commandment is "You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor." 

Question 104:  What does the ninth commandment teach you?

Answer:  Never to lie, but to tell the truth at all times.

Question 105:  What is the tenth commandment.

Answer:  The tenth commandment is "You shall not covet your neighbor's house;  you shall not covet your neighbor's wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor's." 

Question 106:  What does the tenth commandment teach you?

Answer:  To be content with whatever God chooses to give me.


Question 107:  Can you keep the Ten Commandments perfectly?

Answer:  No.  Since the fall of Adam, the only One who has been able to do this is Jesus. 

Question 108:  Of what use are the Ten Commandments to you?

Answer:  They teach me what is pleasing to God, and how much I need a Savior.
